Need I say more? I posted a blended coffee recipe a few weeks back now and it seemed quite well received. Since posting that one, my diet intentions have slightly changed. My trainer thinks I need to work on my macro ratios to see the next step of progress in my #weddingbodgoals. Since going vegetarian, I find myself eating plenty, but maybe in the incorrect ratios. Who knows for sure until I really test it out, but I needed to start logging my food to track everything and see how I needed to change it. Well, I thought that eating beans and lentils was plenty of protein, but I was wrong. They are both great sources of protein but have equal if not even more portions of carbohydrates, so I wasn’t getting the amount of protein I thought I was. So to amp up my protein intake per day, I have been getting creative on how I can get more pure protein in my diet without significantly impacting the carbs and fats I already get in my diet.

Enter… this wonderfully tasty high protein coffee shake! It’s essentially my blended coffee but adding in almond milk (or soy milk for an even higher protein kick), and protein powder! Sounds so simple, but I had to try it to ensure it was good enough to share with you! It truly is such a simple recipe, but that makes it easy enough to not pass up! And before it truly starts cooling down, why not enjoy another cooling beverage?! Saying that as a true Texan since we’re still in the 90s. Don’t worry though, soups and fall dishes are coming soon!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups brewed coffee, cooled preferably cold brewed but not needed
  • 1.5 cups vanilla unsweetened almond milk alternatively, use soy milk for higher protein
  • one serving favorite protein powder I used Orgain Organic Vanilla Protein + Superfoods
  • 3 cups ice

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to blender, and blend until smooth and icy!

Notes

This recipe makes a lot, but I do recommend with this amount of liquid to spread out the protein to not make it too grainy. You might be able to concentrate the amount of coffee and milk of choice if you use a whey based protein powder though. Just use equal parts coffee and milk if venturing away from this recipe!
